London to Brighton Cycle Ride for Laura

My Story
In 2015 I joined the IntoUniversity Graduate Scheme and it is fair to say that's when I really started working a job I was deeply passionate about. While I no longer work for the charity it holds a special place in my heart and I am still just as passionate about the work they do to this day. It was also when I met Laura. We never worked in the same centre but our paths crossed on many occassions during my time with IntoUniversity and with our shared backgrounds in teaching and our similar attitudes to life we bonded.
Laura introduced me to "10% Braver" the WomenEd book and a strategy for life in general. As well as that - she inspired me to take up cycling. Becuase if Laura, another vertically challenged person, could love it then so could I. We shared many stories and tips along the way. Laura was one of those special friends who I could go a long time without speaking to and then just pick up exactly where we left off. Even after I left IntoUniversity and moved in my current at a University, Laura remained a positive presence in my life and we shared so many long conversations about the state of education and social mobility in the UK.
As Laura inspired me to cycle, and because I have struggled to get on my bike since her death I've set the challenge this year of completing the London to Brighton cycle ride in September and raising money in Laura's honour. I know that she'd be cheering me on and sharing all her wisdom with me as I train and prepare. I've never cycled this distance and I live in a very flat part of England so it's going to be a real challenge!
In Laura's memory the IntoUniversity Book Bursary has been set up. Funds raised will provide monies for books for students attending IntoUniversity centres (for example through Academic Support libraries) and for book bursaries for those who are starting their first year at unviersity.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your support towards this cause and celebration of Laura's life. The book bursary will give young people even more chances as they navigate a deeply unfair world and will share Laura's passion for books with the next generation, inspiring in them a love of reading and learning.
